We Lead By Example
Training: Through the generosity of the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) we have had the use of several houses in the Hemlock Creek area throughout 2020. These houses have been slated for demolition but were loaned out to the Fire and Police Departments for training prior to demo. These houses provided our crews with the unique ability to practice real-world firefighting techniques inside a residential structure.
Those techniques include hose line advancement, search and rescue, mayday situations, and other communication techniques. The opportunity to train in homes does not come around very often so we will be taking advantage of it throughout the course of this program. If the weather permits we will be in that area training anytime a house is available to us.
Portable Radios
The fire department has taken delivery of new portable radios that were acquired through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program. Through this federal grant, which was sponsored by the Parma Fire Department, and with the matching portion of the AFG being picked up by Cuyahoga County, we took delivery of approximately $150,000 in communication equipment at no cost to the city. This includes 25 brand new Harris Portable Radios, chargers, and microphones. These radios are an incredible upgrade from the portable radios we were currently using. Lt. Bob Perko III deserves recognition for putting in a lot of time and effort to help make this grant happen.
