Other Disposable Items and Household Hazardous Waste
Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Roundup
The city offers two collections in conjunction with the County. These are scheduled for Tuesday, May 17th 8AM – 6PM & Tuesday, September 20th 8AM – 6PM & Scrap tire round-up.
Acceptable Materials: Oil or solvent-based paint, sealers, primers, or coatings (aerosols or liquids) varnishes, polyurethane, shellacs, paint thinner, mineral spirits, turpentine, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, caustic household cleaners, automotive fluid, motor oil, car batteries, adhesives, driveway sealer, kerosene, gasoline, lighter fluid, mercury.
Document Shred Days
Tuesday, April 19th - 1PM - 7PM
Tuesday, June 14th - 1PM - 7PM
Tuesday, August 16th - 1PM - 7PM
Florescent bulbs and latex paint are no longer accepted at the HHW roundup.
Tires
The city will collect tires 20 inches or less at the Household and Hazardous Waste Roundup on September 20th from 8am - 6pm behind City Hall. Tires must be off the rim.
Fluorescent Bulbs
Household compact fluorescent bulbs can be dropped off at Home Depot or Lowe’s Home Improvement store. It’s free.
Latex Paint
Remove the lid and allow to dry. If there are large quantities of paint, mixing cat litter, sawdust, plaster of paris, oil dry or vermiculite into the paint to speed drying will help. Once dry, the paint can be disposed of with regular trash. Please leave the lid off to let the waste collector know the paint is hardened. Paint cans should not be bagged.
Computer Roundup
We collect used computers, printers, faxes, cell phones, cable boxes, calculators, Toner, backup batteries, stereo systems, keyboards, mouse, laptops, speakers, telephones, network systems, circuit boards, modems, test equipment, cable, wire, hard drives, extension cords, copy machines, VHS/DVD players, routers, switches, laptop batteries, LCD monitors, cameras, printer cartridges, typewriters, servers, CDROM/floppy drives, DVR recorder during our Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Roundups. See the city calendar for dates and times. Computers are delivered to RET3 Job Corp. for recycling. All hard drives are destroyed. These are scheduled for Tuesday, May 17th 8AM – 6PM & Tuesday, September 20th 8AM – 6PM & Scrap tire round-up.
Appliances & Bulk Items
Items such as furniture (fabric and leather furniture MUST be wrapped in plastic), TV's, etc.... can be placed curbside on your regular trash day for pick up by Waste Management. You need to call for special pick up 1-866-797-9018 or the Service Department at 216-525-6225.
Propane Tanks
All Blue Rhino locations offer a free recycling program for 20# grill tanks. Residents can recycle their unwanted 20# grill tanks by writing “RECYCLE” on the tank and taking it to any Blue Rhino location. Blue Rhino will accept any standard 20# grill tank for recycling, including non-Rhino brands. Encourage your residents to use this free retailer recycling program. Using a free retailer program helps defray the increasing costs of the hazardous waste program. See more at http://www.cuyahogarecycles.org/propane_tanks

These are recycled through the county program. See the county website for dates. Cuyahoga County Phone Books. Typical locations are the metro parks.

Simple Recycling
Simple Recycling will now be conducting scheduled pickups.
- Residents will now be required to schedule their pickups by either going online to www.simplerecycling.com OR by calling 866-835-5068
- The pickups will now be at the front door instead of the curb
- The orange bags will be eliminated from the program. Residents must provide their clean & dry recyclable materials in self provided bags or boxes.
- The several factors that are used in deterring availability but it's mostly driven by zip code. Once the zip code is entered, a calendar will appear showing the resident what dates are available for scheduling.
